ABINGDON, VA (March 14, 2013) – Recently, Governor McDonnell proclaimed March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in Virginia. Highlands Community Services, the local provider of Intellectual and Developmental Disability services is excited to have this cause recognized. HCS believes that within every disability is ability and that a good life is possible for all those served.

Highlands Community Services provides multiple programs ranging from intellectual disability services, to mental health, to substance abuse services.

Rema McCue, Director of Community Support Services for HCS, states, “The Governor’s proclamation is certainly a positive step towards recognizing and endorsing truly integrated, community-based services for all Virginians with intellectual and development disabilities. The General Assembly has taken a giant step forward in approving legislation and funding to make this a reality for many deserving Virginians.”
