Mobile crisis intervention services, specifically preadmission screenings, are conducted to determine the need for inpatient treatment to those who pose an imminent risk of harm to self, others, or community. The evaluation includes an assessment of the individual’s current level of social, psychological and academic / occupational functioning as well as a risk assessment and potential for danger to self or others. In the event that the individual requires inpatient treatment, hospital admission is sought on their behalf at all private hospitals within Virginia prior to seeking admission at a state facility. If hospitalization is not needed, safety planning and wrap around services will be coordinated. Evaluations are conducted at HCS locations, Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon Regional Jail, Ridgeview, and Highlands Juvenile Detention. Depending on circumstances and with prior approval, services may also be provided at local schools if unable to mitigate via alternative interventions.
